Stanley Pickle: Best Sound Design Nomination
Stanley Pickle is unlike any film I’ve seen before. It includes a simple yet sweet story about a boy who seems trapped in this wind-up, mechanical world. He realizes his desire to be free of his clock-work routine when he starts observing a girl dancing free in the field outside his house. Stanley eventually follows his heart. I enjoyed the storyline which even manages to get a few laughs, but what really hooked me to this film what the visual technique. I couldn’t decide if it was a live action film, or an animation film, but that is because it is a cross between both. As someone who isn’t familiar with filming techniques, I identified the movement in this film to be similar to the movement in a claymation film, which seems incredibly challenging to pull off with real people and objects. Another noticeable element in this film is it’s enjoyable music and sounds, which proves its greatness through a “Best Sound Design” nomination in the DMV International Film Festival. Big kudos to filmmaker/director Victoria Mather. I guarantee Stanley Pickle to be fun, memorable and visually stunning to watch.
(((THIS FILM WILL BE SCREENING JUNE 15TH 2011 AT THE GOETHE INSTITUTE)))
