girlwithwords: 3 Women in Film you should know...

girlwithwords:

1. Tanecia Britt

I first “met” Tanecia through Marcus Moore, a journalist/Editor I freelanced for a few years ago (back in 09). He said, “Oh you do films? You should meet Tanecia.” Now, I’ve been meaning to write about Tanecia for some time now. I got a chance to interview at that time, and…

FAME: An American Love Story:This film brings the audience back to a more simple time, filmed in black and white, “FAME: An American Love Story” is a modern take on the silent film. This film depicts the struggles faced by two inspiring artists trying to make it in the music industry. Although there seems to be a lot of truth to this story, there is a comical tone that makes this film enjoyable to watch. Watching this film’s style is both refreshing and fun.

Charlie Casanova:
Fresh after headlining at the SXSW Film Festival, “Charlie Casanova” is one of the main feature films being screened at the DMV International Film Festival. This film will definitely prove to be one of the most unique being screened at DMVIFF. What isn’t unique about a sociopath who determines his fate with a deck of playing cards? Charlie Casanova is our protagonist, a man of the ruling class whorefuses to be bound by the restrictions of morality, law or even reality. This movie takes a real turn when Charlie kills a working class woman during a hit and run, and leaves his fate up to his reoccurring deck of playing cards. “Charlie Casanova” thrills its audience by being provocatively dark, disturbing and brilliant all at the same time, but what really captivates us is Emmett Scanlan’s chilling performance as Charlie Casanova. “Charlie Casanova” will take you for a crazy ride through the mind of a psycho. It is a must-see film at this year’s DMV International Film Festival.

So I’m really excited and pumped up for the DMVIFF it begins on June 15th and ends June 17th. Presenting 25 film projects from 7 countries and spanning across 10 genres is the 2nd Annual DMV International Film Festival, an independent display of cinema from filmmakers in the DC, Maryland and Virginia areas. Also including the global faction, DMVIFF focuses on incorporating foreign films in its screenings. Supporting theatres include the Goethe-Institut and PMG Studios. If your in the area or just love film this will definitely be the place to be around mid June.
